Jack stages a war effort
Teenager Jack Fogerty turned out to be a bit of a hero when he performed in the College of West Anglia’s Variety Show.
For he created his own production called Two Little Boys aimed to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War and the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
The variety show contained 40 pieces of dance, music and drama with a matinee and evening performances.
And as a result of Jack’s initiative as one of the acts £117.10 was raised from collections, which will go to the Forces charity Help For Heroes.
Jack, 19, from Chatteris, is a first year performing arts student, Level 3.
He said he wanted to raise awareness of D-Day among the younger generation. “Not enough young people know about the war,” he said.
The variety show, which attracted good audiences, marked the completion of the college course for the academic year.
A programme for the show said: “The work that you see this evening has largely been selected or devised by the students themselves.
“Whilst we have rehearsed in sessions, many of them have also organised themselves and rehearsed their work in their own time.”
Among titles given to students’ work were: All That Jazz; Drunken Sailor; Run Away With Me; Flash Bang Wallop; Spring Awakening; Journey to the Past; Happy; Gambling Man; Mercy; Music Hall Medley; Grand parents; Gooseberry; Shine on Through and Numb.
Jack’s production featured two boys playing during the war. They were wearing jackets, helmets and Army fatigues acquired by members of the college’s Uniformed Services department.
