Jobs help for those with learning difficulties
An important meeting which could be the start of a bridge to paid employment for students with learning difficulties is being held on Wednesday at King’s Lynn.
It comes under the umbrella of Project Search, run by the College of West Anglia, employment advisors Remploy and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The hospital hosts Project Search where the information meeting will be held between 6pm and 8pm.
Project Search is a course which prepares students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
Three quarters of students enrolled in the past with Project Search had already benefited from courses at the college and Project Search caters for those aged between 19-24 who are committed and ready to progress into paid employment after completing the course.
It lasts for one academic year, five days a week and those accepted will study employability skills such as customer service, communication, interview and job search skills, health and safety, wellbeing and IT skills.
Students will get hands-on experience of work in the workplace, combined with daily classroom sessions.
They will be supported full-time by a college tutor and a Remploy employment advisor.
The course is based completely on the host employer’s premises.
Wednesday’s fact-finding event is open to potential students and their parents/carers/support workers.
Deadline for the next course is April 30.
