College student, Lexy Compton-Merritt has organised a series of events to help raise and awareness and money for UK based charity, Fanconi Hope.
Fanconi Hope was set up by parents of Fanconi Anaemia (FA) affected children. FA is a rare, life-limiting genetic disorder causing bone marrow failure in children and a predisposition to gynaecological, head and neck cancers, together with other complications both in childhood and in later life.
Lexy:
“I wanted to raise awareness of the condition and I wanted to support this rare disorder to raise money, too.”
Lexy, alongside her friend, Megan Matthews, who has FA, organised a number of events to raise awareness and money for the charity. This included getting students to wear blue to support International Fanconi Anaemia Day.
The students also organised, sold tickets and held a raffle with all the proceeds donated to Fanconi Hope. Raffle prizes were donated by local businesses, including Pastimes, Home Bargains and The Body Shop, as well as family and friends.
College student, Megan Matthews, said:
“Being a student with Falconi’s Anaemia, I know how unaware people really are of this disorder, which is why I feel the need to help support this charity and raise awareness. I hope that if people are aware of the disorder that it might encourage others to hold charitable events in the future.”
