Elletsen bike 1 CWA student Elizabeth Eilertsen aims to complete her Access to Medicine Course with a gruelling event to raise money to support the MS charity. She wants to raise at least £1,500 by cycling 237 miles from London to Paris in three days. Elizabeth, 34, who lives in King’s Lynn and is going on to university later this year to study to be a dentist, has been inspired because in the past she cared for a man who had advanced MS, as well as working with a girl who had just been diagnosed. She said: “The cycle ride will be a tough challenge but, with these people in mind, I’m looking forward to supporting the charity as they help others with MS. It is such a horrible condition.” Elizabeth is beginning her training and aims to ride 50/60 miles a night three times a night, gradually increasing to 80/100 miles near the date of the actual trek. Before coming to King’s Lynn, Elizabeth, born in Glasgow, studied numerous subjects at different colleges. She was interested in both art and science; graduated with a degree in Interior Architecture, studied photography and electronic media, biology and chemistry. Gradually her interest in science has grown and she completed an Open University Module in Molecular Medicine. She explained: “After spending time concentrating on my artistic career, my passion for science began to take precedent and I pursued my increasing interest in Medicine.” Now she wants to become a dentist – not surprising as she comes from a family of dentists. She is currently studying on the Access to Medicine and Dentistry at the College of West Anglia, and has secured a place to study Dentistry at Plymouth University. Having travelled in many continents her trek to Paris on September 4-7 will be a rewarding end to her studies at the College of West Anglia. She has already organised a bake sale at the college, a jackpot game and is hoping a supermarket will allow her to do a bag pack. She can be sponsored by visiting her JustGiving page here.
