The College of West Anglia put on a winning performance when 600 people crammed in to the Kings Lynn Corn Exchange for the KLFM West Norfolk Sports Awards hosted by KLFM’s Adam Newstead. The evening celebrated the achievements of the sports community over the last 12 months and CWA performed particularly well picking up four awards. They were the CWA Fury Basketball Academy, which was voted West Norfolk Team of the Year; Daniel Buhlemann scooped West Norfolk Coach of the Year; Dominic Dwyer took Professional Sportsman of the Year and Leanne Keeley-Smith won School Sports Leader of the Year. It was a proud time for the campus’s Programme Manager for Sport Tommy Goode. He said: “I was really proud to see the great achievements of our students recognised amongst so many talented people in West Norfolk.  From ten categories we walked away with four winners and nominations in other categories which demonstrates the talented students we have at the sports campus. “KLFM put on a great show and it was eye-opening for the students to see what the impact they are making in the local community”. CWA Fury Basketball Academy, West Norfolk Team of the Year: CWA Fury following a great season which saw them win the British College Performance League, The British Colleges East Region Cup and make the quarter finals of the National Cup were awarded West Norfolks Team of the Year beating off strong competition from Kings Lynn Gymnastics Club, Kings Lynn Town Football Club and a host of others. Leanne Keeley-Smith won West Norfolk School Sports Leader of the Year: Leanne is in her fourth year at the college having originally joined on the Sport and Active Leisure Diploma while she was in Year 10 at KLA. She has since progressed and is currently in her second year on the Extended Diploma in Sport.  Leanne started coaching while at college and volunteered with a number of schools and sports events.  She is a member of the CWA Sport Student Management Team and helps run clubs for other students and is also on the British Colleges Sport East Region Student Committee. Leanne was spotted in her sessions by Kings Lynn Community Football who offered her a placement volunteering which has since turned in to paid part-time employment.  Leanne has also been employed part-time by Lynnsport as an activity leader.  Having completed all this and a number of coaching qualifications Leanne is a very deserving winner of this award. Daniel Buhlemann wins West Norfolks Coach of the Year: Dan currently runs the college’s Elite Football Programme and is the Kings Lynn Community Football Development Officer running the largest coaching company in West Norfolk including Kings Elite Football, Multi-sports, schools programmes, King’s Lynn Speed Stacking, Player Development Centres, Neighbourhood leagues and Adapted Football Sessions.  Dan is a former student of the college’s where he completed a National Diploma in Sport. Dominic Dwyer won West Norfolk Professional Sportsman of the Year: Dominic Dwyer completed the Coaching and Activity Leadership programme at CWA and was part of the Elite Football Programme.  From college we helped him on to a soccer scholarship in the America where he attended Texas Tyler University and on graduating was included in the MLS draft picks and secured a place at MLS league side Kansas City. At the beginning of last season he went on loan to Orlando, two tiers below the MLS and broke all the goals scoring records, helping Orlando to the championship title before returning to Kansas City at the end of his loan spell.  He then broke into the Kansas first team and played in the championship final which David Beckhman played in 12 months previously and helped the team to become MLS Champions.  Dominic is the only player to have ever won two championships in the same season in America.
