College principal, David Pomfret, alongside other members of the Senior Management Team, went back to the floor to work alongside college apprentices in a series of events that celebrated National Apprenticeship Week 2019 (NAW).

NAW is taking place from the 4th-8th March 2019 and is a nationwide annual celebration of apprenticeships that will bring the whole apprenticeship community together to celebrate the impact of apprenticeships on individuals, employers and the economy.

Colle principal, David Pomfret returned back to the floor on Friday 8th March at Bespak Europe Ltd in King’s Lynn. David joined college apprentice, Vanessa Wallis, who is currently completing a laboratory technician apprenticeship with Bespak.

David Pomfret said: “I have particularly enjoyed returning back to the floor to work alongside our talented young apprentice, Vanessa Wallis, at Bespak during National Apprenticeship Week 2019. The college have a strong history of delivering apprenticeships and our apprenticeship provision has recently been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted. Currently, the college have over 900 active apprenticeships and apprentices like Vanessa play a vital role in bringing business and education together to ensure we create commercially aware and work-ready employees.”

Vanessa Wallis, Apprentice Laboratory Technician said “Apprenticeships are a really good way for anyone to gain the skills and knowledge to aid them in building a career. The apprenticeship programme at Bespak helps you gain practical skills necessary for your job role as well as learning about the company and understanding the role each department plays. Whilst studying at the College of West Anglia my course has covered many different avenues of science allowing me to learn about as much as possible, I am then able to bring that knowledge back into the work place and apply it to my role in the lab. I’ve found everyone involved in my apprenticeship at Bespak and College of West Anglia are really supportive and want to see you achieve as much as possible. I’ve already learnt so much and I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of my apprenticeship will involve”.

Tom Bush, Qualifications Manager at Bespak commented “We are very pleased to welcome David Pomfret to Bespak to spend some time with our laboratory apprentice Vanessa. It’s been an excellent opportunity for Vanessa to showcase what she has learned so far in her apprenticeship and also for David to witness the level and type of work Vanessa is involved in at Bespak. We have a great relationship with the college, whose dedicated team of tutors and assessors work closely with our apprentices to ensure they have a positive experience and ultimately achieve their apprenticeships”.
