College principal, David Pomfret, spent the morning with staff and students at the Wisbech campus.
During the morning session, David joined the 19 foundation studies students in a variety of activities, led by foundation studies lecturer, Sarah Middup, alongside several learning support officers.
David said:
“Today is about taking the opportunity to experience a day in the life of some of our teaching staff, learning support officers (LSOs) and students at the college. Experiencing this is instrumental in recognising aspects that we do well, and aspects that we need to improve on.”
The morning’s activities were centred around the theme of Remembrance Day. Students learnt about what Remembrance Day is and why it is celebrated. They also completed several arts and craft activities, including making a poppy wreath, and then moved onto some quizzes and word searches, and finally, some numeracy activities centred around poppies.
David said:
“I’ve really enjoyed working side by side with our staff and students this morning. I have been really inspired by the focus and concentration of our students, despite the diverse capabilities in the group, everybody has demonstrated the progress that they are making and the enjoyment that they are getting out of being students here at the college. I have great admiration for Sarah and the team of LSOs for the support that they are providing to our foundation level students.”
One student, Leon, said:
“The best thing about coming to college is seeing my friends and my teacher. I like doing art a lot, especially painting. For Remembrance Day, I’m planning on doing the two minutes silence this year.”

In previous years, to mark apprenticeship week, David has spent time working alongside some of the college's apprentices and he plans to replicate the success of these days with other departments around the college.
David said:
“For me, the reason that I do this job, is that I’m passionate about changing lives through learning and enabling our staff and students to succeed. Hopefully, by better understanding the individual needs of our staff and learners, we can improve not only their everyday experience but the impact of our work.”
