The Purfleet Trust are delighted with the “amazing” renovation work that a local National Citizen Service group have completed over the last week, transforming the spare room at their health and well-being day centre.
The students aged between 15 and 17 have been part of a four week NCS programme run by the College of West Anglia. In their final week, they have taken part in a social action project to give back to their local community. The group decided that they wanted to help the Purfleet Trust and so approached the charity, based in King’s Lynn. The project evolved into a one week renovation of a spare office upstairs, which is now a health and well-being room with yoga mats and cosy furniture for use in the day centre.
Beth Gedge, team leader for the group, said: “The Purfleet Trust was a charity that we felt inspired by and passionate about helping, due to the consistent care that they provide to the community. Members of the team liaised on a frequent basis with the Purfleet Trust to plan and undertake the project which has been a great success and something my group should be proud of.”
Shauna Cannell, 16, from Litcham High School, said: “This has been a rewarding final week project and I’ve loved the experience of NCS. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with.”
Jane Heeney, health and wellbeing centre manager at the Purfleet Trust, said: “I think it’s great that there are people like this who want to engage with the local community and help out in such a way that gives something back to those less fortunate than themselves. They have done an amazing job and we hope to work with NCS again in the future.”
Kim Johnson, health and wellbeing coach at the Purfleet Trust day centre, said: “It’s amazing that young people of this age have given up their time in the school holidays to come here and do what they’ve been doing for us. They’re a real credit to NCS and the College of West Anglia.”
