Rugby helps students learn leadership skills
Rugby has played a part in helping students at the College of West Anglia at King’s Lynn o develop their leadership skills.
Now eight uniformed service students have received certificates to recognise the work they have put in since the programme began in January.
On Monday they were presented with their awards by Lee Parry, who lives at North Wootton but is also Rugby Football Union coach for Norfolk and also coaches at the Ipswich club.
The scheme has been carried out at the sports campus of the College of West Anglia at Lynnsport.
Sara Edwards, sport development officer, said: “Since January stepping out students from uniformed services at the college, have been working hard to complete their Level One Rugby Leader’s Award.
“The award was undertaken during college time through the module ‘working together’. Each Monday the students have participated in an hour of practical activity led by myself and a theory session led by Pat Kavanagh, course director of uniformed services.”
“The award is designed to develop the student’s confidence, knowledge of rugby and also their leadership skills. The eight students who have taken part have excelled as the weeks have gone by with all eight achieving the award.
“As part of the award they each had to prepare sessions plans, lead activities, give constructive feedback to all participants and also learn about the 5Cs- Confidence, Competence, Connection, Creativity and Character. “
To celebrate their success presented the certificates and then provided tudents with a fun touch rugby session. All of the students really enjoyed the session with the majority worn out by the end.
The students will now look to further develop their skills and hopefully provide other sessions for their peers.
Sara said: “Congratulations to the eight students who achieved the award. “
