Springboard at Thornham 1Springboard film Queen at Thornham Students from the College of West Anglia at King's Lynn filmed exclusive footage of tqhe Queen today. Members of the SpringboardTV team were given pride of place when Queen Elizabeth II performed the official opening of the new village hall at Thornham. And because the team – four students and one member of staff – were allowed a prime site, they were asked to by ITV to use some of their film on the local evening news. “ITV did not get decent footage, so they asked to use some we took,” said Scott Jarvis, SpringboardTV project manager. The film was brought back to the college campus and prepared for use by ITV.
“The students were really happy to be able to film the Queen. They captured her on arrival and leaving the new village hall.” The SpringboardTV team consisted of lecturer James Fox and students Sean Rees, Kieran Hudson, Ilze Vermane and Luke Leeks. For the last year the college has been working on a project for Thornham Village to produce a DVD to tell the story of the history of the former hall and the building of the new one, which the Queen opened. Villagers spent four years raising funds for a new hall to replace Thornham’s aging Drill Hall on the Ringstead Road. They were awarded a £475,000 lottery grant, along with contributions from local councils, towards the £650,000 cost of the building. It offers a function room/venue for up to 250 people, meeting room, wifi, kitchen, and changing rooms for the village football and cricket teams.  Activities include a soup club for elderly people in and around the village, while the village heritage society will be staging an exhibition of photographs of Thornham in the hall next month. The SpringboardTV DVD will be launched at the exhibition and will be available for sale, with proceeds going to SpringboardTV as part of the cost of the project.
