Students graduate with NCS awards
The NCS locally is organised under the umbrella of the uniformed services department of the College of West Anglia, although students came from many different towns, as far away as Thetford.
The 16 and 17 year olds completed the Easter course during April, which helps young people improve team skills, develop self-confidence, and learn about their community before completing volunteering projects they planned and organised themselves.
Their time at Easter saw the students complete residential breaks at Mepal outdoor centre and at Bircham Newton and then the final day at College of West Anglia. They completed various projects including charity fundraising, cake sales, and bag packing.
The graduation ceremony saw the end of the College of West Anglia’s first National Citizen Service course this year but there are more opportunities to take part in the once in a lifetime course.
The College of West Anglia will be delivering a course during the summer holiday, which over one 100 people have signed up for already.
The Government funded three-week course also includes two weeks away from home, one at an outdoor activity centre, with all costs included for just £50.
If you are 16 or 17 and would like to find out more, or 18 and over and would like to volunteer, go to www.cwa.ac.uk/ncs or contact Stuart Harrowing on 07720316854 or by email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
