On Monday 22 May, uniformed and public service students from the College of West Anglia’s Wisbech Campus were treated to an “informative and inspirational” careers presentation on life as a prison officer.
Custodial Manager Emma Wilson, from HM Prison Whitemoor, gave an insight into Her Majesty’s Prison Service (HMPS) recruitment process and outlined the day-to-day running of a modern high security prison.
Students probed with questions on pay, terms and conditions of service and what a new potential trainee officer could expect in their initial stages of training.
Adrian Kent, Level 3 uniformed services tutor at CWA Wisbech, said: “Emma took time to share both funny and moving experiences from her career to date. Students and staff were in stitches, as well as awestruck by the professionalism displayed daily by our serving HMPS Prison officers.
“Emma’s enthusiasm for her job and pride to serve in Her Majesty’s Prison Service was evident. Both staff and students agree that Emma is without doubt an outstanding role model to the service. We wish to thank Emma for her most informative, and inspirational HMPS careers presentation and wish her all the best for the future.”
