Students in winning reading challenges
King’s Lynn, Isle and Cambridge campuses of the College of West Anglia have all successfully taken part in the Six Book Challenge this year.
It will lead to more books being acquired, improve literacy and encourage readership.
In addition Isle and King’s Lynn campuses organised a writing competition based around the theme My Perfect Day.
Both the Six Book Challenge and Writing Competition initiatives promote reading and writing for pleasure and improving literacy skills.
The learning resources centres at each campus organised the challenges and was proud of their successful students.
At King’s Lynn campus, 24 students successfully completed the Six Book Challenge, 18 completed the Writing Competition and 18 students completed both.
Students were from a range of subject areas including English For Speakers of Other Languages and Foundation Studies.
The Learning Resource Centre at King’s Lynn hopes to further expand its fiction section to suit all tastes and abilities in order to encourage more of students to read for fun.
Certificates were presented by Andrew England, head of Organisational Development and Quality, who said how wonderful it was that so many students had been involved and that they should all feel proud of their achievements.
At the Isle campus in Wisbech 28 students completed the Six Book Challenge and 167 completed the Writing Competition.
Isle learning resources centre is about to undergo a radical change as part of major redevelopment and it is hoped the new layout will also help to encourage more readers among students.
Cambridge campus also managed to double the number of students successfully completing the six book challenge compared to last year.
Off the back of this success it is looking to increase the range of fiction available to help it encourage even more readers next year.
