Students from the King's Lynn and Wisbech campuses have recently been involved in a ‘meet the marines’ challenge.
The uniformed services students attended the day at the Cambridge army barracks to get a taste of a day in the life of a marine. After a warm-up sessions, the learners were put through their paces, taking part in physical and endurance activates such as scaling a 40ft wall and competing in a rowing race.
The Marines then demonstrated a range of different weapons, explaining the specific tactical benefits to each one and the workshop concluded with a Marine combat display.
Uniformed services progress support coach Tracy Spearing said: “Our students were definitely worn out! They worked really hard on each activity, and the Marines were great in giving support to those who needed it. At the end of the day, our students were asked if they would consider signing up to the marines and a number of them put their hands up; it was great to see the positive impact that the day had”.
