Students' work showcased at Majestic screening
A film written and presented by the architect and historian Ptolemy Dean – and made and edited by students at CWA - previewed at a special screening at the Majestic Cinema on Tuesday 23 February 2016.
As part of the St Margaret’s Townscape Heritage Initiative, last year Ptolemy starred in a short film celebrating the architectural splendour of the historic town centre, focusing in particular on the area around the Saturday Market Place. The film provided Ptolemy with a chance to share his enthusiasm for the town, of which he has long been a fan.
The St Margaret's Conservation Area Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) is a £2million project which is set to rejuvenate this important King’s Lynn conservation area.
Media students from the College of West Anglia made and edited the film which is going to be used to promote the THI project and other heritage linked projects throughout the town.
Scott Jarvis, project manager of Springboard TV, the College’s TV channel explained: "Working with Ptolemy, a professional presenter, provided the students with an excellent opportunity to work in a pressurised filming environment, putting into practice all of the skills they had been taught in college".
Ptolemy, who is also the Surveyor of the Fabric at Westminster Abbey, knows King’s Lynn well and enjoyed carrying out the research necessary for the film along with the shooting of the documentary itself. Ptolemy explains “King’s Lynn is a wonderful town, I very much hope that those that engaged with the production of this film, enjoyed making it as much as I did. I wish the film well.”
