The highly successful Health and Social Care/Nursing Paramedic Academy at the College of West Anglia celebrated successful students who have gone on and started their professional lives by inviting a selection back in to talk about their experiences.
Many of them who returned donned the uniforms they now wear in their caring roles to tell others of what the college did for them as part of a project organised there for the first time.
The students who pursued opportunities beyond College in professional training in places as far away as London, Bedford and Northampton included student
nurses, paramedics, care assistants, operating department practitioners, private hospital staff, European adult and mental health nursing.
Nerys Brooks, the course director for the Nursing and Paramedic Academy at the College of West Anglia, said: “Each one of these people here today went out into the world and made a success. I am very, very proud of them.”
The speakers included those who chose other options rather than go to university.
“The college prepared me so well,” said one of them, a view shared by others.
And Faculty head Andrew Gedge urged the current students who have still to decide their future to grab the opportunities ahead of them.
“Each one of the speakers have powerful stories and they outline better than any prospectus the impact that the College can have in changing lives” he said, “For each of the current students, our courses and my staff have provide you all with the opportunity to have as equally powerful stories and experiences.
“ You just need to make it happen whether it is Higher Education or the pursuit of professional careers upon leaving College”. Andrew added that it will become an annual event to invite members of the growing ‘Faculty Alumni’ back to the College and allow us to continue this journey with them.
He praised Mrs Brooks for masterminding the event, which had been well attended by students from two courses and for the ex-students in coming in to speak so powerfully and professionally.
