Highly-skilled apprentices from the College of West Anglia (CWA) have been awarded prizes for outstanding achievement in the last academic year as part of CWA’s annual Apprenticeship Awards.
The awards coincided with National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2021, taking place from 8th until 14th February 2021. NAW is an annual nationwide celebration of apprenticeships will bring the whole apprenticeship community together to highlight the impact of apprenticeships on individuals, employers and the economy.
The awards recognised individual achievement, skill and study in a variety of different fields, from engineering and hairdressing to horticulture and veterinary nursing.
Vanessa Wallis, CWA Laboratory Technician Apprentice, said:
“Whilst studying at the CWA, my course has covered many different avenues of science allowing me to learn about as much as possible. I’ve found everyone involved in my apprenticeship at Bespak and CWA are really supportive and want to see you achieve as much as possible.”
David Pomfret, CWA Principal with Vanessa Wallis in 2019
Harry Jackson, CWA Engineering Apprentice of Year said:
“Since I was younger, I’ve always wanted to do an apprenticeship. I would say to anyone who wants to study an apprenticeship to go for it as you gain the experience you need while learning on the job and earning a wage.”
Harry Jackson
Anastasija Bistrova, Customer Service Apprentice of the Year
Jarred Miller, Plumbing Apprentice of the Year with his employer, Mike McDonnell of McDonnell Caravans
David Pomfret, CWA Principal, said:
“While we were unable to hold a physical ceremony this year, it has been vital that we still recognise the outstanding achievements of the hugely talented apprentices who study at the college and work with our employer partners. We are immensely proud of their success and are excited to see how their careers progress in the future.”
We would also like to give a special mention to the employers, award sponsors and other local stakeholders who go above and beyond to champion and develop the apprenticeship provision across the region.”
Electrotechnical Apprentices of the Year, Brandon Campbell and Toni Howlett, received the Kevin Clarke Award. Kevin Clarke, a former CWA electrical apprentice, was killed in a car accident in 1984. His parents, John and Janet, recognise two electrical apprentices each year in his honour. The two winners of this year’s awards will also receive tool vouchers to the value of £75 each, generously donated by Edmundson Electrical Wholesalers.
The CWA Apprenticeship Awards were sponsored by; Anglian Water Alliances, Consort Medical, Palm Paper (Palm Gruppe) and Princes Food.
