Local business representatives visited the college's King’s Lynn campus to conduct a series of mock interviews for the Construction, Engineering and Plumbing students to prepare them for their future employment.

Nicky Paine, Liaison Manager from Balfour Beatty joined Lily Sinclair, Delivery Co-ordinator from ASK CXK and Helen Mason, Support for Schools Adviser from the Job Centre Plus came along to the college to conduct a series of mock interviews with students to prepare them for employment.

The interviews have taken place over a series of weeks and have involved over 100 students from the construction, engineering and plumbing programmes at the college. The sessions also include feedback and guidance on their CVs and interview style.

Mock interview day

One student, Oliver Shaw, said: “The CV advice and feedback was really helpful” while Halil Tezge said “The mock interview helped me to understand about talking in the correct manner and improve my communication.”

Technology Work Placement & Careers Co-ordinator, Lyanne Clayton, said:

“This is an invaluable opportunity for our students as they enter their next phase of life and indeed, for all of their future employment experiences. I would like to thank Balfour Beatty, ASK CXK and the Job Centre Plus for their continued support at the college as this has proved to be a very beneficial exercise for the students.”

CWA have strong links with Balfour Beatty, who have taken many work experience students from the college in recent years. Balfour Beatty will be presenting two students, Kacey Dent and Rhys Davies, with their certificate and badges of achievement for the successful completion of the Gold Industrial Cadet award programme they have undertaken at Islington pumping station as part of their work experience placement.

The Industrial Cadets programme was inspired by HRH The Prince of Wales who is the patron to challenge industry to do more to engage with local young people and communities by focussing on career pathways and employability skills.
