IMG_6775 The College of West Anglia Sports Campus is now an FA (Football Association) and ECFA (England College Football Association) Football Development and Referee Development Hub. There are 23 Football Development Hubs and 10 Referee Development Hubs nationally. CWA is the only hub in the Eastern Region recognising excellence in promoting and developing football participation, coaching and officiating. The campus, based at Alive Leisure Lynnsport, has been recognised for its outstanding work over a number of years in developing football in and around King’s Lynn and will now work with the FA and ECFA to continue to improve opportunities for participants aged 12-25 and those who want to develop into a career in coaching or refereeing. This status provides opportunities for CWA students and stakeholders to contribute to their personal development through volunteering and football qualifications, adding to the value of football development in West Norfolk. The hub launched on Wednesday 11 May. Students completed activator training, which was followed by a Team19 small sided football festival delivered by CWA students before the day came to a close with CWA’s Elite Football Programme playing Peterborough United in a 3pm kick-off on the 3G pitch at the CWA Sports Campus, Alive Leisure Lynnsport. The Football Development Hub will work in partnership with representatives from Norfolk FA, ECFA, Kings Lynn Community Football, Kings Lynn Town Football Club, King Edward VII Academy, Alive Leisure and the School Sports Partnership, where all stakeholders are committed to working together to improve football in schools through to adult provision for males, females and those with disabilities. CWA Principal and Chair of the Football Development Hub David Pomfret said: “The College of West Anglia is extremely proud to be awarded Football Development Hub status and we are very excited about the opportunities it will create for our students. We look forward to working with our partners to continue to develop football in West Norfolk.” Lauren O’Sullivan, National Football Development Manager for ECFA, said: “We look forward to continuing our work with the College of West Anglia where football in colleges looks to have a very exciting future and this project should benefit anyone looking to get involved in football in the local community.” For more information about the Football Development Hub and how you can get involved please contact Tommy Goode, Programme Manager for Sport on 01553 815506 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
