IMG_8939 Two apprentices supported by the College of West Anglia have become the first to take part in a project in Europe. Marcus Wyer and Daniel Haynes have just returned from four weeks in Finland where they have been engaged in a large glazing company working round-the-clock on the electrical maintenance of engineering machinery. Marcus, whose father founded Wyer Electrical Services, and Daniel, are both based at the growing company, based at Melton Constable in North Norfolk. It carries out a whole range of electrical work, large and small, and its work involves everything from the smallest of projects to major work for insurers throughout East Anglia. Marcus and Daniel have each received at Europass certificate to recognise their work in Finland, which gave them experience of working on large industrial work in Koulova, a city of around 88,000 people some 80 miles north east of the capital Helskinki. Company director Julian Wyer said the visit and work in Finland had given his staff a better understanding of different aspects of the profession. It also broadened their life skills and increased production for Wyer’s as they looked forward to their time in Finland. The Wyer apprentices were willing to work longer hours when necessary to ensure that a job was completed had this been noted by the Finnish company. Mr Wyer said the apprenticeship scheme was going well with the College of West Anglia, which was a source of its recruitment. CAPTION Well done: Julian Wyer with staff Marcus Wyer, left, and Danie; Haynes, who have returned from Finland, the College of West Anglia’s first apprentices to take part in a European project.
