UcWA students take top prize at tech competition!
University Centre West Anglia students Aleasha Fox and Charlie Walton were part of the winning team at a fiercely-fought tech competition, held in Norwich, at the weekend.
‘Sync the City’ is a 54-hour event that brings together budding entrepreneurs with experienced business mentors and technology expertise. Groups of moguls, developers, business managers, marketing gurus and graphic artists battle it out to pitch ideas for new start-up companies, for a cash prize.
The competition ran from the 17th to 19th November at the King’s Centre, in Norwich. Teams were tasked with creating a brand, carry out the essential market research to come up with a business model and then create a prototype to pitch to the judges.
The winning team took home £3000 as the judges’ winner and a further £1000 was given to the people's choice champions. Front-runners also won sales training from Sandler Training and one year associate membership of Norfolk Network.
Degree students from UcWA were members of both winning teams. The judge’s choice won for their concept of an intelligent shopping list manger and the people's choice winner developed a system to help children who suffer from bullying.
Nigel Edwards, course director for BSc Computer Science at the College of West Anglia said: “I am very proud of the hard work of the BSc Applied Computer Science students from UcWA. Sync the City is a great way of showcasing their skills to the public.”
