The College of West Anglia (CWA) celebrated the exceptional achievements of its students at the Student of the Year Awards 2025, which took place on Tuesday, 11th June at the King’s Lynn Corn Exchange.
The annual event recognised students from across all four campuses – King's Lynn, Wisbech, Cambridge, Downham Market and Lynnsport – who have gone above and beyond in their studies, shown personal resilience or made outstanding contributions at college or in the community.
The awards ceremony was attended by proud family members, staff and invited guests. The evening celebrated students' commitment, determination and success and included a buffet reception.
Awards were presented across a wide range of categories, including Apprenticeships, Personal Achievement, Land-Based Studies, Inclusive Learning, Creative Arts, and Technology. Among the winners was Chloe Wing, who was recognised for her exceptional progress and success in the recent WeldSkills regional heat. She received the Student of the Year award for the Department of Technology. In addition to this, Chloe was also named the overall Student of the Year—a prestigious honour awarded to one outstanding individual from the category winners.
Chloe said after winning the award, ‘I was so surprised to win this! Especially after winning WeldSkills, it’s still not sunk in yet! I couldn’t have done this without my lecturers, Darren Freeman and Mark Tester.’
Darren Freeman, Chloe’s lecturer said ‘Chloe's awards are truly deserved, she has shown such dedication and commitment to her learning as well as sharing her knowledge with her piers. Her ability to absorb knowledge and apply it to tasks is outstanding. It is fantastic that the college has recognised these traits and winning these awards has inspired her to try to be even better.’
Principal David Pomfret said ‘These awards are always a personal highlight of the year for me. Chloe is an incredible example of a student who has grabbed the opportunities afforded her at CWA, she has determination and drive to achieve and I'm extremely pleased we were able to recognise her and 29 other amazing students alongside her. Well done.’
