IMG_1514 A special lunch was held at the College of West Anglia’s King’s Lynn campus on 17th March celebrating that the college is currently hosting 11 students from 3 different countries; the most that have been hosted at any one time. Just over 3 years ago CWA started to establish links with colleges all over Europe and this how now grown to connections with 17 different European countries and the college regularly receives requests to host students for long and short placements. The college benefits from the ever-increasing relationships as over 100 staff and students from CWA have also been on return placements and observational visits. The students currently being hosted include 4 from Malta, 6 from Finland and 1 from the Netherlands. The students from Malta are undertaking work experience with the student services and marketing departments for 3 weeks linked to their studies at their college, MCAST, based in Paola, Malta. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the College of West Anglia. The work has been very challenging and interesting in this busy college and the people – especially our host families - have all been very friendly. We have enjoyed the food and culture and have visited Cambridge and London,” said one of the students, Dylan Tonna. The 6 Finnish students have been at the college for 6 weeks and have been based with the uniformed services, security and National Citizen Service teams. They all study Security Services at their college KSAO based in Kouvola, Finland. “We had the chance to spend a weekend in the Snowdonia national park and actually managed to climb the mountain, it felt like a real achievement to get to the top. We all also really enjoyed helping with the security for Jermain Jackman’s visit to the 2 local schools KLA and KESA,” said Finnish student Oskari Rouhiainen. Manon Van Der Meer from the Netherlands is with CWA for the longest period of time as her internship lasts 10 weeks. She has been working with lots of the different departments in the college including finance and exams. Manon is studying to be secretary and as a part of her course she is required to do an internship and she chose to come to England to complete hers. “It’s been a great experience to do my internship at CWA, it’s difficult to pick out the best part of it, as it’s all been really enjoyable. I will go home and recommend to my fellow students they also choose England for their internship,” said Manon. “All of the visiting students have been excellent ambassadors for their respective colleges, and it has been a pleasure to have them at the college. We have an extensive and strong working relationship with all our European partners, and hosting visiting students forms just one part of our expanding European exchange programme,” added Tom Griffiths, EU coordinator for the college.
