chelsea Chelsea Munday, 19, from Wisbech, is a current level 3 Sports Science student at the College of West Anglia (CWA) Sports Campus in King’s Lynn. She is now Ladies World Champion, under 70kg, in the points and continuous kickboxing categories. She recently competed at the Kick Boxing World Championships where she secured two gold, one silver and one bronze medal. The 7th World Kickboxing Council (WKC) World Championships took place in Albufeira, Portugal, from Friday 23 to Monday 26 October 2015. Chelsea says that hard work, additional training - training up to five times a week across the country - and the support from her family, has led to her success. She trains at the British Chinese Kickboxing Association (BCKA) in Peterborough; the club which put her forward for the squad that flew out to the world championships. Before taking up kickboxing, Chelsea trained in gymnastics but it was her dad and her godfather (who also participates in the sport) who got her into kickboxing. Chelsea said: “I don’t really make a big deal of things like this but I am really proud of what I have achieved.  I do eight hours a week of training when I have a competition, but even off-season I still do an average of five hours so it is a big commitment.” In March 2016, Chelsea will be competing at the Irish opens. She said: “It would be amazing to place at the open but that’s a huge ask on myself. Right now I am focusing on getting my second degree black belt grading on Sunday.” Sara Edwards, sports development officer at CWA, said: “This was the first world championship that Chelsea had competed in, so naturally she was a little nervous at competing as she knew the other competitors would be extremely strong and talented.  Everyone at the sports campus is extremely proud of what Chelsea has achieved at such a young age. The future is looking extremely bright for her.”
