Norfolk Constabulary visited the College of West Anglia (CWA) King’s Lynn campus to spend a week with year one Public Protective Services (PPS) students, to inspire and offer a taste of the job roles for those who aspire to a career in the emergency services.
The taster week included hands-on work experience and learning. Sessions included talks with DC James Smith about life as a police officer, a Cyber Security Escape Room with John Greenwood, and the journey from studying at CWA to joining Norfolk Constabulary as a detective with DC Jack Moore. The week concluded with a project, which the students presented in small groups to a panel of judges from CWA and Norfolk Constabulary. The panel included Inspector Ben Jarvis, Local Policing Commander for King’s Lynn, Amy Stanton and PC Patryk Polom and Ann Compton from CWA.
Tracey Hall, Work Experience and Careers Co-Ordinator at College of West Anglia said:
“This is the second 'Police Week' held for PPS students to fully immerse them in the life of the police. They have spoken to detectives, PC's and recruitment staff and delivered a presentation to Inspector Ben Jarvis and his panel.
This is just part of the exposure and support that our current 1st years will have from the police on the course. Our ongoing collaboration with Norfolk Constabulary is already bearing fruit with six of our 2nd year students already having applied and another three with Specials applications ongoing.”
Public Protective Services training prepares young people for a career in uniformed services, including the Police, Fire Service and Prison Service via the ‘blue pathway’ and the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force via the ‘green pathway’.
