The College of West Anglia was excited to welcome Timothy Copsey from the British Film Institute (BFI) Academy, who spoke to Media students about opportunities in the film industry and pathways for young filmmakers. The session provided invaluable insight into the creative and practical aspects of film, opening up a world of possibilities for students passionate about storytelling through film.
Timothy shared firsthand experiences and tips on getting started in the film industry, explaining the resources and support available for emerging filmmakers through the BFI. Students learnt about the BFI’s initiatives, such as film production workshops, industry networking opportunities, and development programmes that can help them gain the skills and experience needed to succeed in the competitive world of filmmaking.
The interactive talk sparked engaging discussions, with students asking questions about everything from scriptwriting and directing, to technical skills and collaborations. The session not only inspired students, but also gave them practical advice on how to start their own film projects, participate in festivals and leverage BFI resources to advance their ambitions.
Timothy explained, ”The reason I come to talk at colleges is because the BFI believe that talent is everywhere, however, opportunity is not. And I can highlight to the students the resources and opportunities that BFI can offer them after college.“
