Computing students from the King's Lynn Campus recently had the opportunity to visit RAF Marham, where they gained valuable insights into the base’s operations, history and advanced technology. The visit provided a comprehensive experience that combined hands-on learning, historical exploration and an introduction to cyber defense.
The students were given a detailed tour of the base, learning about the history of RAF Marham, including the construction dates of various buildings and the site’s previous role in storing nuclear warheads.
Toby Hollin-Hill, 17, one of the visiting students reflected on the experience saying ‘The trip to RAF Marham was very informative. We learned a lot about the inner workings of the base and some historical facts. The tour was the best part, closely followed by the Flight Simulator.’
One of the highlights of the trip was the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technology, including a flight simulation and a virtual reality experience that allowed students to pilot a jet.
Jake Jones, 17 , described his experience: ‘I really enjoyed getting a good look at the Tornado jet. The VR simulation was amazing – I felt like I was doing barrel rolls across the UK!’
The visit offered a rare glimpse into military life and sparked the student’s interest in cybersecurity, aviation technology, and military history.
