Branching Out, a charity based in Littleport near Ely, is very excited to welcome two new CWA apprentices to its team this month.
Shahna Shimmin and Kelsey Linney are both working towards Health & Social Care Level 2 and in addition to their studies at CWA, they will also complete the Care Certificate and various other industry standard training to qualify them to support people with a care and support need.
Kelsey Linney, Apprentice Support Worker, said: “I’ve been using what I have learnt at home. With the apprenticeship you are treated like an adult. It’s a much better environment to learn in. I never thought I would choose to do education or do a qualification without having to. I would recommend apprenticeship’s especially to anyone who doesn’t like the classroom environment. Everyone is lovely here.”
Shahna Shimmin, Apprentice Support Worker, said: “It’s hard work going through all the paperwork, getting to know everyone, working on the Care Certificate and college work all at the same time, but it’s fun and it’s nice being here.”
Susan Wiggans, General Manager of Branching Out, is delighted to have the girls on board and said: “Both Shahna and Kelsey had to undergoing an interview process to be awarded the apprenticeship. They have had a very busy first week starting their Care Certificate, starting work on their Health & Social Care Level 2, getting work uniform, and becoming more familiar with Branching Out. We are really enjoying passing on our skills and knowledge to the next generation and getting to know them.”
CWA is one of the largest training providers in the Anglia region, and works with hundreds of employers across Norfolk and Cambridgeshire in supporting students (aged 16+) through apprenticeships in a wide variety of work areas. Work-based learning is a great opportunity to combine practical experience and technical support.
Anne Hamilton, CWA Training Advisor for the apprentices at Branching Out, said: “It’s fantastic that we have been able to place these students in their new roles at Branching Out. Apprenticeships offer a great alternative way to gain qualifications, whilst earning as you learn. I wish the girls every success in their apprenticeships and the College of West Anglia is looking forward to supporting them at the start of their careers.”
