The College of West Anglia celebrated the success of students who have excelled as Norfolk Scholars, and those who have successfully excelled at level 2, in two prestigious presentation evenings held at the King’s Lynn campus, at the end of autumn/winter term (12 and 15 December).
Norfolk Scholar status is awarded to students who have achieved the equivalent of two A’s and a C, or one A and two B’s, by Norfolk County Council. This year, CWA produced over 250 Norfolk Scholars, many of whom progressed onto degree courses at universities across the UK in September 2016.
Around 100 of the college’s level 2 students who excelled in their studies, achieving the equivalent of a B grade, were also celebrated in a second event.
Both events were held as part of the college’s iCWA programme, part of the study programme given to all students at college. This is a commitment to developing work-ready people, equipping students with the skills and experience needed for the workplace, and has been supported by local and national employers such as Adrian Flux, Anglian Water and Affinage.
Both events featured special guest, Kamal Hyman, one of the UK’s youngest professional motivational speakers, who delivered a special message of congratulations and inspiration to students.
Andrew Gedge, lead for iCWA at the college, said: “I am incredibly proud to be celebrating the successful of our students. We are thrilled to have such a high number of Norfolk Scholars, as well as so many incredibly successful level 2 students. Being able to celebrate with them and recognise their success is such a privilege, and I wish them every success in their future endeavours.”
Norfolk Scholar Daisy Leask, 19, from King’s Lynn, was one of those recognised for academic achievement, on Thursday 15 December. She said: “It’s really nice to celebrate our achievements as a group like this. Everyone has clearly worked really hard to get their grades. I am now getting ready to start university and believe that my time at the college has given me with the skills I need to progress onto my degree course.”
