CWA student Chloe Ludkin, has won the East of England Apprentice of the Year award and apprenticeship employers, Stainless MetalCraft (Chatteris) Ltd and Bespak Europe Ltd have won SME Employer of the Year award and Large Employer of the Year award respectively at the regional apprenticeship finals.
The East of England Regional Apprenticeship Awards 2018 were held at Newmarket Racecourse on the Wednesday 12th September on behalf of the National Apprenticeship Service. The National Apprenticeship Awards showcase the diverse and growing range of sectors engaged with apprenticeships, whilst celebrating outstanding apprentices, employers and individuals who go above and beyond to champion apprenticeships across England

Twenty-year-old Chloe Ludkin beat seven other regional finalists to win the British Army Award for Intermediate Apprentice of the Year. Chloe works for Treatt, an ingredients manufacturer and solutions provider to the global flavour, fragrance and consumer goods markets based in Bury St. Edmunds, and has successfully completed the level 2 laboratory technician apprenticeship at CWA.
Chloe said: “It was a very special moment for me when I heard my name announced as the regional winner of this award. Since I joined Treatt as an apprentice, I have been given so many incredible opportunities, each one bringing new skills to help me develop to a professional level. The apprenticeship stood out to me through the nature of the role and working for the flavour industry sounded particularly exciting. I was also keen to work within an organisation whilst gaining qualifications as I learn. Overall the combination of both has provided me with a fantastic career already and amazing prospects going forward. Treatt has been extremely supportive throughout my years as an apprentice and I can’t wait to see how my career develops with them in the years ahead.”

As the winner of the regional award, Chloe will now be shortlisted as a finalist for the National Apprentice of the Year award 2018 with the national awards ceremony to be held on the 28th November of this year.
Two of our apprenticeship employers, Stainless MetalCraft (Chatteris) Ltd and Bespak Europe Ltd won awards on the night, too.
Stainless MetalCraft (Chatteris) Ltd, deal with the manufacture of specialist equipment for hazardous environments and currently work with CWA to offer work-based learning. Collaboratively, with the college, Stainless MetalCraft (Chatteris) Ltd have 19 apprentices, offering Level 3 Technical Support Pathway and Fabrication and Welding apprenticeships. The company have their own state of the art apprenticeship learning facilities on-site.

Another one of our partner employers, Bespak Europe Ltd, who develop and manufacture complex medical devices for major pharmaceutical companies across King’s Lynn, Norfolk and Cambridge, won the Royal Navy Award for Large Employer of the Year award. The college and Bespak Europe Ltd work in partnership to deliver a range of apprenticeships, such as the Science Industry Maintenance Technician Standard and the Engineering Manufacture Toolmaker qualification.

We have a strong history of delivering apprenticeships and are the only college in the East of England who have been rated Outstanding for apprenticeship delivery by Ofsted. Currently, we have over 900 active apprenticeships in a wide-range of industries, including engineering, horticulture and administration.
