Students from the Faculty of Land-Based Studies at the College of West Anglia’s Cambridge and Wisbech campuses have showcased their creativity and talent in a recent Student Photography Competition, with the winning entries now set to be displayed.
The competition invited students to capture high-quality images across three categories:
- Equine – A photo of one of the college horses.
- Animal – Outdoor animals from the Wisbech or Cambridge campus animal units.
- Canine – Their own dog or a staff member’s dog, photographed in an outdoor setting.
Students were encouraged to think carefully about composition and background details to ensure the highest quality images. The competition was judged by Kerry Heathcote, Deputy CEO and Vice Principal for Curriculum and Quality, who was impressed by the standard of entries.
The winners were:
- Equine – Photo of Batman by Daisy Wain, who is undertaking a Level 3 Equine studies course
- Canine – Photo of Lola by Emily Lockwood, who is taking a Level 3 in Animal Management
- Animal – Photo of Rodney by Leah Levett who is studying a Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care
Each winning photograph will be professionally printed in A1 size, framed, and displayed in key locations across the college’s three main campuses.
Kerry Heathcote praised the talent demonstrated by the students, saying ' It was an absolute delight to judge the photography competition. One of the most striking things about the images, was the talent of the photographers in capturing the personalities of their subjects. A fabulous array of animal magic!’
The competition not only gave students a chance to showcase their skills but also provided them with an opportunity to engage more deeply with their subject, demonstrating the diversity of the animals they work with as part of their studies.
