College of West Anglia (CWA) King’s Lynn campus transformed into Rydell high for two nights last week. Performing arts students performed in Grease the Musical which plays homage to the 1950s and the rebellious 'Burger Palace Boys' and their counterparts the 'Pink Ladies'.
CWA students on the Level 2 Diploma on Performing and Production Arts course, Level 3 Diploma in Performing and Production Arts and Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts course all came together as a group for the performance.
Students all working together in a group as a theatre company for this production meant that any student on any level of study, first year or second year, can audition and be considered for any of the leading roles. The cast was then voted in by the rest of the student body from each of the courses.
The performance included films which were made and edited by students studying Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology.
Annette Connolly, Course Director Level 2 Performing Arts said:
“Our Christmas performance of Grease the musical was directed by CWA Drama lecturer, Paul Greenwood with choreography and scenes created and supported by the students.
We had a very strong cast with Liv O'Malley and Lauren Southerland playing Sandy and George Hewish and Lee Clifton both playing Danny over the two performances.
Matthew Moore our excellent technician at CWA brought in and painted a Morris Minor for the car and created an innovative set design, with a bed for Sandra Dee and the car for the drive-in movie hidden under the stairs that create the iconic final scene of 'you're the one that I want'.”
