Dragon's den Photo 1 Pioneering students at the Wisbech campus have been shaping the future of the Anglian Water @one Alliance Project Lifecycle Management (PLM). Anglian Water’s Digital Asset Creation team have been supporting the Anglian water sponsored Level 3 Mechanical & Electrical Engineering course through a number of classes and initiatives. The @one Alliance PLM Working Group have been discussing the future of PLM. The Alliance is at the industry’s leading edge of Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) and is already operating ahead of the government’s targets. The Computer Aided Design teams have been using advanced visualisation and 3D modelling on pathfinder projects, making it possible for operators and manufacturing to get involved in what the Alliance is doing before it is done. Asking the students – the company’s future employees - about their vision of the construction industry in 2025 was seen as a beneficial move for the @one Alliance to help with further PLM advancements. Students were tasked to feedback and present their vision in a 'dragon's den' setting. This helped the students with working as team, presentation skills and it gave them the chance to impress their potential future employers. The students were given the project in January, with three months to work on a presentation. The class of students were divided into teams of up to five and were to work together to answer the following questions – • What's next for Construction? • In 2025 what will be different? • How will it impact the way you work? The creative and somewhat advanced ideas presented from each team varied from virtual working, to virtual reality house building, to renewable resources, to an Anglian Water Construction School. Dave Newsome, who is project managing the development of these courses across all four alliances, in collaboration with the college, said: “The students worked well in teams, presented very passionately, and impressed the PLM Working Group.” “The PLM dragon's posed challenging questions, and the students answered positively. These ideas will now be fed into the next PLM working group and will help shape the Anglian Water @one alliance PLM future.” AW team Project leaders and employers.
