College alumnus, Jack Goodrum, has been selected to represent the United Kingdom in the carpentry category at the WorldSkills ‘Skills Olympics’ international final in Kazan, Russia in August 2019.

The UK’s best and brightest young skilled, apprentices and students have been selected to represent all four nations in Team UK at the finals in Russia.

Jack who has already triumphed in regional and national competitions had one more momentous obstacle to overcome at Team Selection events the length and breadth of the UK.



More than 30 young professionals from engineering, hospitality and professional services, construction and digital and IT - have cleared the highest hurdle in a two-year challenge to be the best in the World.

The results were revealed at Loughborough University which has a strong association with training Team GB for the Olympics. 

Jack Goodrum said: I’d like to first say thanks to the College of West Anglia and Peter Goodrum Ltd for the support they have provided on my journey so far, with their support I have now achieved a spot in squad U.K. and a place on the world stage to show case all I have learnt in my training. Worldskills U.K. has provided me with amazing opportunities and I’m thankful to everyone who has stayed with me on my journey.”



College Principal David Pomfret said: “Jack’s success within the national and European legs of the WorldSkills finals is indictive of some of the highly-skilled students that are coming out of our college. We are delighted that he has been chosen to represent the UK on an international stage and we are excited to see what he will achieve at the WorldSkills finals in Kazan.”

More than 60 countries are sending elite teams to the Tatarstan Capital 800 km east of Moscow - to do battle and go for bronze, silver and gold in 56 different skills disciplines.
