Employers impressed by Wisbech students
Students at the Wisbech Campus were given a chance to sell themselves to possible future employers at an enterprise day held by CWA Technology and CITB.
19 students took advantage of the day which was attended by representatives from Skanska, Balfour, Smith Building Services, and Lovells. The young people were given a chance to chat and be informally interviewed to help them know what to expect when the day comes that they go out looking for employment on completion of their courses at CWA.
One student said: “This experience was very helpful in giving me an understanding of the construction industry and employer information. I feel more confident in knowing where to find information on job vacancies that can kick-start my career. I know what I need to improve on now, too."
Alan Seeley, programme manager for technology at CWA, said: “I am really proud of them all and very confident in their ability to get good, meaningful jobs in the construction industry. The students clearly worked hard in preparation for this, and this was confirmed by the really positive things that the companies said about them.”
Lucy Smith at CITB said: “The Employability workshop was a huge success, there were some really good candidates who presented themselves really well to the employers. There was some excellent feedback from the employers who were really positive about the candidates they spoke to and said they were well presented and clearly had prepared for the session.”
Jo Scott from Lovell said: “We found the workshop to be very successful and it was one of the most rewarding workshops we have attended. The students were very interested and engaging and I was very impressed with the attitudes and efforts the majority of the students made, especially with attire. It was clear that students had prepared and made efforts in preparing their CVs and questions and Lovell would happily recruit some, if not most of the students with no questions."
Michael Saunders from Lovell added: “It was very rewarding for us to see the enthusiasm of the students. It’s always a pleasure to attend such events when the students are clearly engaged and benefiting from the experience. The overall standard of the 'candidates' was excellent and much higher than anticipated prior to the event."
