Harry wins Mayor’s Business Awards
CWA apprentice Harry Barker, 17, who works at Aspires Ltd. in Fincham, has won the Apprentice / Trainee of the Year award at the Mayor’s Business Awards in King’s Lynn.
The Mayor’s Business Awards publicly acknowledge outstanding business achievement and the contribution that businesses make to the West Norfolk economy.
Harry said: “It was a bit daunting to attend a black tie event such as the Mayor’s Business Awards but I was honoured to be nominated.
“I was never the most studious person at school and this apprenticeship has shown me that I am a much more hands-on, vocational learner. So, winning apprentice of the year after not doing well in school is such an achievement for me.
I am so grateful to Aspires for accepting me even though my exam grades were not good and believing in me as a person. Winning this award shows that bad grades doesn’t mean you are a failure.”
Harry has since also won Health & Social Care Apprentice of the Year 2016 at the CWA Awards and is now awaiting to hear if he has been shortlisted for the main student awards which take place in June.
Jackie Murphy, Managing Director of Aspires, said: "I am really proud of Harry. He has proven beyond doubt my belief in him at the beginning of his apprenticeship. He has all the caring attributes I could hope for and has steadily progressed in readiness to become our new member of staff. However, for the King’s Lynn Mayor's Business Award panel to also recognise his achievements is wonderful. Harry is a very worthy Apprentice of the Year."
