It was smiles all round last week at Novus Restaurant as Peele Community College students participated in a highly successful Great British Bake-Off themed event.
Over 20 year 10 students at the Lincolnshire college took part on the day, testing their culinary skills by cooking various food including sausage rolls, cupcakes and canapés.

This was the last of five events organised by CWA in partnership with LincHigher, Lincolnshire’s version of the Norfolk NEACO project. The Network for East Anglian Collaborative Outreach (NEACO) and LincHigher projects are part of a wider national initiative funded by the Office For Students (OfS) to increase aspirations amongst young people and target particular wards around the country. The overall aim for the projects are to meet government targets of improving access to Higher Education.
The programme began with Engineering at our Wisbech campus on Wednesday 7
th November and then ran weekly, focusing on different faculties; Business/Marketing, Health & Social Care and Anglian Water Alliances, culminating with Hospitality & Catering on Wednesday 5
th December. All the subjects must connect in some way to higher education for them to access the funding.

Jacqui Gilman, careers advisor at The Peele Community College, said:
“This is the second year that we have run the taster days in partnership with the College of West Anglia and LincHigher and again we have had a brilliant five weeks of alternative education in the college environment.
“Students have been able to use the skills and knowledge that they have learnt in school and apply these to a variety of vocational courses in college. The transition from school to Post 16 education can be difficult to adjust to and these taster days have hopefully helped students with their future career plans.”
One of the students, Courtney, from The Peele Community College, said “The college gave us a lot of experience and an insight into college and what to expect for the future. We felt independent with a taster of what it is going to be like to be a college student.” (Courtney Year 10)
