Director of Crown Garage Honda, Chris Rivett, came in to deliver a workshop, inspiring the future generation of the motor industry.
On Tuesday 3rd December Chris delivered a speech to Level 1 and 2 Motor Vehicle students, discussing everything from the wide range of career pathways on offer and highlighting the scope of opportunity on offer. He also highlighted the changing face of the motor industry with the technological advancements of driverless cars and desire of consumers to move towards a more environmentally-friendly product, with hybrid cars and employability skills.
After the speech Chris opened the floor to a Q & A session, followed by a demonstration on the new Honda Hybrid CR-V SUV for the students to learn how it works and have a look around the state-of-the-art hybrid model.
One student said:
“I found Chris’ talk really inspiring and it gave me a new perspective on the different job opportunities available to me from someone already working in the industry.”
Chris has strong links to CWA and the wider community. He has taken over 12 students for work experience over the last three years. The students gain invaluable experience and complete a minimum of 60 hours work at the dealership as part of their work experience, which will count towards their qualification.
Chris said:
“Crown Garage Honda have always been willing to do anything we are can to help CWA. I have a vested interest in education and a strong desire to see students here in Kings Lynn succeed. Our industry needs young people. They are the future generation of mechanics and in order to deal with the vast changes that will occur within the industry, it is important to equip young people with the advice and skills they need to invest in their futures.”
Jayne Hicks, Work Placement and Careers Coordinator for Technology, said:
“It is great to have local employers come in and inspire our students. Work experience is extremely important in making our students ready for work and we would like to thank Chris and the Honda dealership in King’s Lynn for supporting us with this transition from college to working life.”
