Students at the College of West Anglia’s King’s Lynn Campus had the opportunity to explore career opportunities in health, social care, nursing and science sectors at a careers fair held on 11th March.
The event brought together a wide range of organisations, offering insights into careers in policing, healthcare, social care, environmental sustainability, and community services. Representatives from Norfolk Police, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Care Tech community Services, King’s Lynn Residential Home, Black Swan, Night Shelter, and York House were on hand to discuss the variety of roles available and to share their industry knowledge.
For students considering further education and professional training, the University of East Anglia, Lincoln University, and the School of Nursing/Apollo Project provided guidance on degree courses and specialist qualifications. The Talent for Care and Apprenticeship teams highlighted work-based learning opportunities while NCC Adult Social Care OTs and Co-Production Children and Young People Services showcased careers in social care and youth support.
Sustainability and green careers were also a focus with organisations such as Circle Waste and Reconomy discussing the increasing demon for environmentally responsible roles within the sector.
Sarah Hawkes, one of the organisers of the event said ‘Careers fairs are a great opportunity for students to meet with potential employers, alumni and other professionals which enables them to build relationships for their future. Students get the opportunity to explore careers and settings they may not have heard of or considered. It is good for confidence building as students have to speak to people they haven’t met before to ask questions to enable them to gain information.
Having a range of employers in to talk to students especially in a lecture theatre environment as well gives them a better insight into career roles within a specific career.’
