On 8th May, hospitality students were treated to a vibrant and inspiring culinary experience as MasterChef 2023 quarter-finalist Thuy Hoang delivered a Vietnamese masterclass at the King’s Lynn campus.
Known for her bold flavours and passion for her food heritage, Thuy guided students through traditional techniques and authentic ingredients, bringing the essence of Vietnamese cuisine to life.
The masterclass formed part of the department’s commitment to exposing students to industry professionals and global culinary traditions. Students worked alongside Thuy to prepare mouthwatering recipes such as Pork and Prawn Wontons, Vietnamese Green Mango Salad and Vietnamese Roast Pork Sandwich.
Thuy shared her personal journal of her journey from home cook to MasterChef success and encouraged students to explore their own cultural influences and creativity in the kitchen.
“I am delighted to work with talented catering students from the College of West Anglia. I specialise in the vibrant food culture of my Vietnamese heritage. This masterclass is an important way students can diversify their skills and knowledge of international cuisines. At the event, students will learn my treasured family recipes and discover more about my culture and passion for the food of Indochina. “
This memorable event left students feeling inspired and empowered, offering both practical skills and a deeper appreciation and understanding of Vietnamese cuisine.
Isla Arlott, who is studying a Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery, said ‘It’s really fun being able to meet a Masterchef quarter finalist and having the opportunity to learn about different experiences and cultures in cooking.’
