The students of Meadowgate School in Wisbech visited the College of West Anglia King’s Lynn campus, last month, for a day of workshops with the creative arts department. College staff and students ran four half-hour workshops on rotation throughout the day; commercial dance led by Xaynia Gelder-Bailey, jazz dance led by Laura Spalding, drama led by Kirsty Holmes and a Green Screen filming session led by Scott Jarvis and Richie Allen. The Meadowgate students were able to learn short dance routines and show them on TV via the green screen. They were also given the chance to try their hand at presenting the weather and were given the opportunity to control the cameras and manipulate images and camera shots on the computer. In the drama workshop, students created a peacock and dragon out of small groups of students and played some drama-related teambuilding games. CWA Course Director for Level 2 Performing Arts, Annette Connolly, said: “The organisers wanted to get their students out of their comfort zone and to try something new. They had mixed ability groups but they all joined in, as did the staff, and everyone had a very good time. We finished the day with a round-up of events and a chorus of Happy Birthday for Ben, one of the Meadowgate students.”
