Students at CWA are now able to sow the seeds of their own success, following the opening of a new garden area at the Wisbech campus.
Executive Director Mark Reavell officially opened the newly constructed horticulture area, which was designed and built for use by students on Bridge courses run by the foundation studies department.
The new garden area includes a growing tunnel, potting shed and raised plant beds, which will provide a range of learning opportunities for the campus’s foundation students. It will allow students to work together to keep a continuous supply of flowers, fruit and vegetables growing throughout the year.
In addition to the new garden area, CWA’s foundation department officially opened their new kitchen facilities where students can learn more about becoming independent and cooking for themselves.
Programme manager for foundation studies at the Wisbech campus, Margaret Goman said: “We are really proud of the wonderful new resources we now have. The aim is for the students to use some of the produce to prepare meals in the new kitchen area and to sell the surplus in the college shop to fund some of their own projects and activities.”
The faculty will also be moving into specially designed teaching classrooms within the £5.5m teaching centre opening in September 2015.
