In the basket The College of West Anglia Fury Basketball Academy is having another great year. Having already won the AoC Sport East Region Tournament - qualifying for the national finals in April - the team are in position to reclaim top spot in the AoC Sport East League and recently won the AoC Sport East Regional Cup Final in a hard fought game against Long Road Sixth Form. Cambridge cinched a win of 47-46 with end to end late drama. CWA now progress to the National quarter finals. Players in the academy combine their education at CWA Sports Campus with professional basketball coaching from Fury coach James Bamfield. A number of the squad have progressed from the Junior ranks at Fury into the academy at CWA before playing national league basketball with Fury, or moving on to university scholarships in the UK and America. Programme Manager for Sport Tommy Goode said: “We are extremely proud of the lads achievements again this year, demonstrating the strength of our programme over the last six years and our relationship with Fury continues to develop with students supporting the club as well as the club running basketball provision here at the college.” 67_CWA_SPORTS_2015 KLFM West Norfolk Sports Awards  CWA Sports Campus enjoyed another good evening at the KLFM Sports Awards, attended by over 600 people, at the Alive Corn Exchange. CWA had four nominations shortlisted for the final where two won their categories and the other two nominees were highly commended. Jamie Buhlemann, CWA Elite Girls Football Programme coach, was named West Norfolk Coach of the Year. Jamie enjoyed a great year, winning the AoC Sport East Regional League and AoC Regional Tournament with CWA Elite girls, starting new roles as Community Development Coach with Kings Lynn Community Football - having real impact in improving the school and activating communities programmes - and starting a new role as Norwich City Ladies Head Coach. James Bamfield, CWA Fury Basketball Academy Coach, was highly commended after a great year saw a school programme come to fruition - with increased participation and the senior National League team reach the play-off final. Sam Robinson took the School Sports Leader of the Year Award after a really successful year attending CWA Sports Campus on the level 2 Coaching and Activity Leadership Programme. He undertook 459 hours of volunteering before being offered employment with Kings Lynn Community Football and with CWA Sports Development. The LTA have also offered Sam an apprenticeship off the back of some excellent work he did with them. In the Team of the Year award both the Elite Girls Football Programme and Fury Basketball were highly commended for an excellent year. Tommy Goode, Programme Manager for Sport said: ‘The KLFM West Norfolk Sports Awards are always an exciting evening and it is great to see the range and quality of talent we have in West Norfolk. It is always great to see the hard work and quality of our students and staff being recognised and we are really proud of their achievements." Sam Robinson KLFM Next Steps 2016 Thursday 4 February saw CWA Sports Campus hold their annual Next Steps day, an event which gets students thinking about their careers and what they need to do as their next step in progressing to the desired career. 20 sessions were delivered by local employers to current students, ranging from fitness instructing and personal training to sports coaching, working in disability sport, sports development and setting up and running your own business. Nine of the sessions were delivered by former CWA Sports Campus students who have now progressed to university or careers in the sport and active leisure industry. These students proved a real inspiration to current students who could clearly see what can be achieved within a couple of years of finishing college. Josie NCFA Girls Tournaments
