On 5th May 2022, Sharon Cambridge handed over her role as Chair of Governors at the College of West Anglia to Gill Rejzl. Sharon has been on the Board since 2002 and has been Chair for the past 10 years.

Sharon said “Being a governor is a rewarding voluntary role. After twenty years as a governor of the College of West Anglia, I am stepping down and passing the baton of Chair of Governors to Gill Rejzl. It has been a pleasure and privilege to have served the college, and, I have, I hope, in some small way played a part in the success of our students. That success of course, in the main, being due to the work of the fantastic staff at the college. The college, will, I am sure, go from strength to strength and I wish every member of the team all the very best.”

David Pomfret, Principal, said “Sharon has been an exceptional Chair of Governors, demonstrating passionate support for students and staff and leading with compassion, empathy, high expectations and challenge. Under Sharon’s leadership, the college has transformed the estate, achieved a ‘Good’ Ofsted judgement, adapted delivery to support students through the recent pandemic and won many college and student awards. The college has built a reputation as the leading college in the East of England for WorldSkills success. I’d like to thank Sharon for her massive voluntary contribution to the college and wish her the very best for the future.”

Sharon will be replaced by Gill Rejzl in the position of Chair. Gill has been a governor for 3 years and came to the college with a background of teaching, local government, social housing and NHS governance.

Gill Said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as Chair of the Board of the College of West Anglia (CWA). I’m really looking forward to working with Board colleagues, our staff team and our students. We have a very bright future together, and our plans are exciting!

CWA is a real asset to the communities it serves and my first message as its new Chair is an invitation. If you want to learn, want to teach, want to support our learning environment, want to work in partnership, or want to serve as a Governor – please have a look to see what CWA has to offer you!”

The college currently has vacancies for governors, so if you have senior level experience and skills and would like to volunteer your time to support education in your community, you can find out more at: cwa.ac.uk/about/governance/become-a-governor or contact the Clerk, Stephen Halls, via email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
