Construction Operations students from the College of West Anglia recently took part in an immersive industry experience with Claret Civil Engineering at West Suffolk College, giving them the opportunity to explore specialist equipment and real-world construction techniques.
The session included a pipe and fittings show-and-tell, where students examined sample components and learned how different pipe types are used across live construction projects. Learners were also introduced to a CCTV drainage inspection van, with full camera equipment demonstrated in action, including the lifting of a manhole cover to show how underground inspections are carried out in real working conditions.
In addition, students explored a Ground Penetrating (GPR) vehicle, gaining a clear understanding of how the technology is used to locate underground services and features without excavation. The visit helped students build knowledge of modern, non-intrusive survey methods and the role they play across today’s construction industry.
Claret Civil Engineering continues to support students from CWA by providing valuable insight into career pathways, apprenticeships and employment opportunities within the civil engineering and construction sector.
