CWA students go for gold!
Eight CWA students will be competing in this year's WorldSkills UK finals at the Birmingham NEC, which takes place from 16th – 18th November.
WorldSkills UK is the nation’s largest skills and careers event. It brings together apprentices, students and young people from across the country to vie to be the best in their chosen skills. The competitions, which run in over 50 skills areas, encourage young people to be ambitious in their pursuit of excellence, while equipping them with life-long skills.
The free event also provides ‘have-a-go’ sessions for a variety of hands on skills - anything from TV production and 3D modelling to demolition simulation and virtual welding. In addition, there are local and national employers on hand to give one-to-one guidance on career routes, as well as opportunities for young people to apply for jobs, apprenticeship and work experience placements.
This year, over half of all finalists from the Eastern region are CWA students, and for the fourth year running, CWA has achieved more registrations and finalists than any other college in this region.
Principal David Pomfret hosted a ‘Go for Gold’ reception at the college’s Novus restaurant in King’s Lynn to celebrate the success of the finalists. He said: “WorldSkills is acknowledged as the skills Olympics of vocational training, challenging young professionals to be the very best in their field. It is a great way to showcase the talents of the college and raise the profile of vocational and educational skills. This purpose of this evening is to celebrate the achievement of the eight students who have secure their place in the national finals of WorldSkills UK . They have done fantastically well and should be immensely proud of themselves”.
