Hair and beauty students from Wisbech campus have provided some luxury pamper for students at local charity college, FACET.
Based in March, Cambridgeshire, FACET provides training and day care for adults with disabilities. The charity currently has 137 students who attend classes, and four teachers who run Level 1 to 3 Gateway qualifications in catering, retail, employability and English. FACET also teaches carpentry and horticulture, and students can sell their woodworks and plants on-site, or through the four FACET charity shops which are located in March, Chatteris and Whittlesey.
Sadly, the college was hit by Storm Doris in February and suffered damage to its roofing, which affected a number of class activities. This meant that not only did funding have to be used to rent spaces elsewhere, but the students’ summer ball, which is normally held at the end of June, was postponed. The repairs were finally completed in September, and general manager Kris Harrold was keen to provide the students with the prom that they deserved.
Natazha Green, Teaching Support Officer for Creative Arts Hair and Beauty at Wisbech campus, organised for a team of ten students to provide hair, make-up and nails services for the FACET students on the day of their prom. She said ‘It was an honour to be asked to be part of such an important event in young adults’ lives. Helping FACET has benefitted the students greatly, allowing them to showcase their skills, provide an excellent professional service to be proud of, and give back to the community. We’ve made a great link between the college and a local charity; hopefully we can make this a yearly event.’
