King’s Lynn campus childhood studies students raised £310 in support of new shower and laundry facilities for a local charity by packing bags at Morrisons supermarket.
The students decided to raise money for the Discovery drop-in centre located off Columbia Way in North Lynn, which focuses on getting young people between the ages of 16-24 into employment.
Accepting the check was Jessica Rudd, a youth worker at the centre, who said: “The money will go a long way towards making a difference to so many people’s lives. Providing showering facilities will hopefully remove the need for time credits, which the deprived and homeless are currently using to shower at St James swimming pool. The new facilities will benefit young people who want to look their best for job interviews and hopefully improve their chances of employment.”
Childcare Tutors Helen Waters and Teresa Johnson, who attended the presentation with the students, both said how proud they were of their students. “The students really got behind the fundraising event, so it was fitting for them to come down to the centre and deliver the cheque together” said Helen Waters at the presentation.
