Students train to become volunteers
Level 2 Uniformed and Public Services students at the King’s Lynn campus have received training from Volunteering Matters (formerly Community Service Volunteers) in order to help them develop into worthwhile volunteers and become more work ready.
The training has taken place over two weeks and the students have been learning about the benefits that volunteering offers and have received training in equality and diversity as well as skills for working with people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Marie Connell from Volunteering Matters said: “Talking to students about the benefits and opportunities volunteering offers can give them a new perspective on why it is such a great idea. The benefits to the students and to the local community are numerous and include improving their CV, learning new skills and giving something back to their local community.
“Employers are twice as likely to take notice of a CV if an applicant has experience of volunteering, this is a point that we push hard to students. The jobs market is a tough one and anything they can do to make their CV’s stand out from the crowd will go a long way to shaping their future careers.”
