Travel and tourism students from the College of West Anglia (CWA) were invited to TUI’s King’s Lynn Store to inspire the future generation to pursue a career in the travel sector.
TUI, in collaboration with CWA hosted the in-store event to seek out and recruit up and coming talent who would like to pursue an apprenticeship within the travel sector.
Activities during the day involved current apprentices sharing their own experiences on working while studying. The Senior Retail Manager Elisa Heron and Deputy Manager Nicole Hammans also spent time showing the students their advanced booking systems and gain a valuable insight into customer service techniques.
One student said:
“It was great to speak to actual apprentices and gain a better understanding of what it’s really like to work there; we got to ask everything we wanted to know about the apprenticeship programme.”
Another student said:
“I learnt how to actually book holidays using their systems as well as learning more about TUI destinations.”
Lesley Anderson, CWA Work Placement and Careers Co-ordinator, said:
“This was a fantastic opportunity for students to see first-hand what it is like to work in a very busy Travel Agents.”
Nicola Leadley, CWA Travel and Tourism lecturer, said:
“The students had a great opportunity to ask questions about life as a travel agent, as well as finding out about TUI apprenticeships. All the staff made it a really enjoyable and invaluable day.”
TUI’s Early Talent & Apprenticeships Manager, Rebecca Wakelin, said:
“Travel is an exciting and fun industry. An apprenticeship is a great way to earn while you learn. Whether it’s in our airline, one of our travel stores, in digital marketing, finance or IT, Apprenticeships are ideal and offer the opportunity to progress within the industry and develop a career that you would never look back on.
When recruiting for our apprentices, we look for people who have that genuine caring spirit.
If you have that, your experience doesn’t matter — we’ll help you develop and realise your full potential.”
